Leaving Earth

Jane Grant's exhibition Leaving Earth in Peninsula Arts Gallery at University of Plymouth from 8 May to 1 July 2010 includes a premiere of the film Soft Moon, which refers to a short story by Italo Calvino regarding the formation of the Earth-Moon System: based on scientific research and literary ideas it uses computer-generated imagery to explore the exchange of matter. Two other films are featured: Leaving Earth, in which the proximity of the Moon is questioned as we move slowly toward it, and Nothing is Further, which re-orientates a journey through space tethered to the earth.

Jane Grant, alongside her collaborators John Matthias and Nick Ryan, was the winner of the PRS Foundation's New Music Award 2008, the most financially prestigious award made for music in the UK: the work created, The Fragmented Orchestra, was shown at FACT in Liverpool from December 2008 to February 2009. Jane Grant has exhibited widely at nationally and internationally renowned galleries. Recently she exhibited at ArtSway, in Just World Order (2008) and Multichannel (2007), and at the Sonic Arts Network Expo Plymouth (2007).

Peninsula Arts Gallery is in the Roland Levinsky Building at University of Plymouth; the exhibition Leaving Earth is open to the public 10am - 5pm from Monday to Friday, and on Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
